Post subject: | Shou Shu after an injury - advice |
I've been a dedicated Shou Shu student for the past 21 months, attending almost daily during my lunch break at the Moores school in Newark under the direction of Shun Shifu Hernandez. Six and half weeks ago, at a Saturday class, during sparring, I ruptured my right Achilles tendon. I am six weeks into my post surgery recovery, the medical advice that I have received is telling me that it will be a long time before I am able to return to Shou Shu, needless to say this has been a devastating injury in many ways. Has anyone else experienced an similar/like type injury that has limited/postponed/interupted your ability to continue your Shou Shu training? Thanks. Anthony BTW. I am a High Green Belt |

Welcome to the martial arts, I've had more injuries then I have time to list, including surgeries. It's part of the game, as far as your particular injury of the Achilles tendon rupture, do not rush the return, be patient cause if you re-injure it the outlook can be real bad. It's is not like a regular tear cause it handles so much tension and stress from the powerful calve and leg muscles, listen to your surgeon. I know all too well the frustration that comes with these injuries. Sorry, there is no magic solution to this one other than listen to your surgeons advice and follow the re-hab with diligence. Thank you for the comment and advice, DaShifu Siegfried, I really appreciate you taking time to respond. Until I can get back on my feet, I can always review the 20 pages of notes that I have. |

You can actually practice during meditation, if you can picture your opponants then you can practice in your own mind. I've done this, and the results are phenomenal!! Because your mind and subconscious doesn't know the difference between reallity or this type of mental work, the great thing is you don't make any mistakes!! As long as you're picturing yourself doing the fight correctly. Try it, when you get back on your feet you'll be absolutely amazed!!! DaShifu Siegfried |

He is a doctor and has had more 30 years of training in shou shu. He is also one of the guys who helped me when I was down and out. Without DaShifu Siegfried, dashifu frier, jung moon, shigun amata, shigun degrass, and of course dashifu parkins, I be the martial artist I am today. Now I have to work extra hard because my next goal is to be shigun. |
